Although we have lovely tea and cake at the Boatshed Cafe, Kent has some wonderful cafes and tea shops to visit whilst you are exploring the area.

Steep Street Coffee, Folkestone

A coffee shop with walls lined with books!  Good coffee and sandwiches.

Silcocks Farm Shop near Tenterden

Farmshop, butchers and cafe with a lovely courtyard and wood burning stove inside.

The Nutmeg Cafe, Hythe

Wonderful coffee and light lunches in the hear of Hythe.


There are lots of wonderful tea shops in Rye, including The Cobbles Tea Room,  The Old Grain Store, The Fig and Mermaid Street Cafe.  Wander around Rye and take your pick!


Tenteden has lots of lovely cafes, Nutmeg, the Lemon tree, Truffles at Coco (also a chocolate shop!) and Peggotty’s Tea Shop as well as Amy’s Pantry  If you have time for lunch try Montalbano’s


Frankies, Staplehurst

Really worth a visit if you are travelling to Leeds Castle or Sissinghurst Castle.  A plant nursery, delicatessen and cafe/restaurant.  With their beautiful oak conversion shop / cafe  it is very popular and serves good lunches, cake and coffee. There’s a zip wire and chickens to entertain the children.

Old Dairy Brewery

Local produce

With such rich agricultural soil and proximity to the sea, it’s no wonder the area is famed for its food and drink. Farmers, fishermen and artisan producers offer everything from vegetables and seafood to ales and cheese, while Romney Marsh lamb is particularly worth trying.

Don’t miss a visit to Hendrick’s of Hythe to sample their gorgeous hand-made truffles and chocolates .


There is a good choice of fishmongers, seafood restaurants and fish and chip shops locally near  New Romney Caravan Park  M&M Richardson have the most amazing displays of fresh, local frish.

Fishmonger Griggs of Hythe, set right on the beach, even serves an al fresco brunch on picnic tables overlooking the sea.

Or check out The Snack Shack  at Dungeness   where you can sample delicious fresh beach food to take away.  All the fish is caught by their own two small inshore fishing boats (the Annalousion & The Doreen T) fishing from the beach at Dungeness.  Visit the fishmonger’s next door for super fresh fish.

Pilot Inn Dungeness

The Pilot Inn is a famous Pub-Restaurant situated just on the beach in the heart of the  Dungeness National Nature Reserve, just a short drive away. Serves wonderful fish and chips and has an interesting history!
